Veterinary Technician Instructor - DVM | Part-Time | Days
Instruct and implement the Veterinary Technician program to educate students in accordance with the curriculum standards and objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain DEA license and controlled substances logs, to include amount/supply and expiration.
- Provide the medical decisions for the patients for the program.
- Examine patients for medical necessities, review any diagnostic testing performed, and record all findings.
- Communicate with the rescues on abnormalities.
- Ensure completeness of medical records in compliance with AVMA and USDA.
- Perform medical procedures.
- Attend IACUC meetings and listed as “Attending Veterinarian”.
- Attend Advisory Board meetings.
- Implement and evaluate daily lesson plans for students to include scheduled activities and materials of sequences and courses.
- Plan instruction to achieve specific objectives based upon student need and established curriculum.
- Monitor lab competencies and confirm skill levels on checklists
- Monitor the attendance of students in the program and coordinate with the Associate Director Student Services when absences occur two days in a row or exceed four days in one sequence.
- Review student success rates and implement plan to reduce student withdrawals. Meet with students to encourage them to stay in the program.
- Maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught in the program.
- Evaluate the performance of students regarding achievements in curriculum and activities and make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
- Maintain student grades in accordance with established policies. Prepare final grades at the end of each sequence to update student records and transcripts.
- Arrange and coordinate guest speakers, community service field trips, and visits to clinics and hospitals.
- Prepare lectures and practical demonstrations for students in class and individually.
- May assist and coordinate externships for Veterinary Technician students.
- Monitor students in the classroom and ensure safety precautions are adhered to.
- May be involved in requisition of pharmaceuticals necessary for program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
- Must graduate with a degree certifying Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
- Licensed Veterinarian in the state in which the campus is located.
- Three (3) years of experience as a DVM in a clinic, hospital or shelter environment.
- Must hold current license, certification or other designation as required by local, state or federal laws to work in the field.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills with experience in basic word processing and spreadsheet documents.
- Experience with visual computer presentation preferred.
