Direct the educational activities of the Veterinary Programs. Develop and manage the approved curriculum and design teaching schedule.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) to lead and elevate our Veterinary Assistant and Technician Program. As Department Chair, you will oversee curriculum development, faculty management, student success initiatives, and AVMA accreditation compliance. This role blends administrative leadership with hands-on teaching, ensuring educational excellence while shaping the next generation of veterinary nursing professionals.

Essential Functions:

1. Program Leadership & Administration

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate veterinary nursing faculty (teaching assignments, performance reviews).

  • Develop and execute departmental goals, policies, and budget management.

  • Ensure AVMA accreditation compliance (documentation, annual reports, self-studies).

  • Conduct department meetings and biannual Advisory Board meetings to align with industry standards.

2. Academic Oversight

  • Design, assess, and update curriculum, course materials, and textbooks to meet accreditation standards.

  • Collaborate with administration on program development, implementation, and outcomes assessment.

  • Organize faculty development workshops to enhance teaching effectiveness.

  • Monitor student success rates (maintain ≥80% pass rate) and implement retention strategies.

3. Clinical & Instructional Duties

  • Teach veterinary nursing courses (lectures, labs, competency evaluations).

  • Assess student performance, provide academic support, and maintain accurate records.

  • Conduct clinical site visits to supervise student externships and ensure educational quality.

  • Track student skill progression via competency checklists and feedback.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Credentials

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an AVMA-accredited program.

  • Active state veterinary license (or eligibility).

Experience

  • 3+ years of clinical practice and/or veterinary teaching experience.

  • Leadership/supervisory experience (preferred).

Skills

  • Strong communication (written & verbal).

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Exceptional organization, administration, and problem-solving abilities.
