Position Summary

Are you an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist ready to take your career to the next level? Pima Medical Institute is seeking a Surgical Technology Clinical Director to oversee both the clinical and classroom components of our Surgical Technology program.

In this dual-leadership and instructional role, you will manage clinical site partnerships, coordinate student rotations, evaluate student progress in the operating room environment, and deliver classroom and lab instruction to prepare future surgical technologists for successful healthcare careers.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Coordination & Site Management:

  • Site Development: Secure new clinical education sites and contractual agreements with local hospitals and surgical centers.

  • Student Placement & Scheduling: Coordinate with clinical staff to establish student placements, conduct site orientations, and manage student rotation schedules within clinical departments.

  • Site Visits & Supervision: Visit clinical sites regularly to review, observe, and evaluate student clinical performance in the scrub role; collaborate with site preceptors and clinical instructors to ensure effective education.

  • Compliance Tracking: Monitor competency evaluations, clinical skill logs, and student records to ensure all program requirements are fulfilled.

  • Curriculum Alignment: Coordinate and revise the clinical education plan for the program, developing clinical objectives and recommending curriculum updates to the Program Director.

Instructional Delivery & Student Retention:

  • Teaching & Demonstration: Prepare lesson plans, deliver engaging lectures, and perform practical lab demonstrations in surgical technology methods and operating room techniques.

  • Student Success Management: Review student success rates by class and implement proactive plans to reduce withdrawals, aiming to maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught.

  • Academic Evaluation: Evaluate student performance regarding course objectives, make necessary accommodations for distinct learning needs, and maintain student grades per institutional policies.

  • Records & Grading: Prepare final grades at the end of each term to accurately update student records and transcripts.

  • Program Support: Assist the Program Director with student applicant admissions and perform overall duties of a Surgical Technologist instructor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Associate degree from a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited surgical technology program recognized. A Baccalaureate degree is preferred.

  • Clinical Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of operating room experience in the scrub role within the last five (5) years OR three (3) years of teaching in the field of surgical technology.

  • Required Certification: Active Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

  • Licensure: Current license, registration, certification, or other designation as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the field.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and standard computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of documented experience as an instructor in a Surgical Technologist program.
