Direct the educational activities of the Respiratory Therapy Program develop and manage the approved curriculum and design the teaching schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Supervise the activities of the respiratory staff.  Prepare teaching assignments.
  • Determine, establish, and implement respiratory therapy department goals.
  • Teach and evaluate conduct according to school policies.  Prepare daily lesson plans according to the prescribed syllabus.  Administer tests to assess student progress and record results.
  • Advise students on conduct according to school policies.   Plan department teaching schedules and supervise instruction directly. Maintain organized and up-to-date records.
  • Provide counseling to students.  Recommend students for admissions, probation, and termination.
  • Support the appropriate professional association through participation in seminars and conferences.
  • Monitor departmental budget and expenditures.  Make appropriate corrections and changes to maintain a profitable program.
  • Seek methodologies for student success in the respiratory therapy program.
  • Develop and maintain a functional curriculum according to the approved design.  Evaluate course content and review new text.
  • Collaborate with the administration in designing and implementing the respiratory therapy program.
  • Assist in interviewing and recruiting prospective faculty.
  • Plan and conduct department staff meetings.  Plan and direct annual Advisory Board meeting.
  • Maintain all CAHEEP and CoARC records and prepare annual reports.  Prepare CoARC self-study as needed.
  • Order supplies and maintains equipment as needed. 
  • Perform the duties of a Respiratory Therapy Instructor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Baccalaureate degree from an academic institute accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in the specialty field.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) State license.
  • Four (4) years of experience as a registered respiratory therapist, of which at least two (2) years must include experience in clinical respiratory care.
  • Two (2) years of instructor experience in an accredited respiratory therapy program as an appointed faculty member or a clinical preceptor.
  • Must hold a current license, certification, or other designation as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the respiratory therapy field.
  • Verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other computer skills.
