Position Summary

Ready to step up? Pima Medical Institute is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant Lead Instructor to guide our students and help shape our program at our San Antonio campus.

In this dual instructional and leadership role, you will deliver classroom and lab instruction while partnering with campus leadership to oversee curriculum implementation, mentor faculty, conduct externship site visits, and support student retention and certification outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Faculty & Administrative Operations:

  • Curriculum & Accreditation: Oversee program curriculum implementation and partner with the Assistant Dean of Faculty (ADF) to prepare accreditation documentation, PEP reports, and meeting minutes.

  • Externship Oversight: Conduct on-site externship site qualifications and midpoint student visits; collaborate with Career Services to supervise externship placements.

  • Faculty Mentorship & Onboarding: Assist with orienting new faculty hires, mentoring the instructional team, and ensuring proper lab student-to-instructor ratios.

  • Advisory Board & Program Growth: Facilitate Advisory Board meetings to communicate programmatic outcomes, externship feedback, and community needs to campus leadership.

  • Lab Operations: Assist with supply inventory, equipment ordering, and monitoring graduate certification pass rates.

Instructional Delivery & Student Mentorship:

  • Lesson Execution: Design and deliver engaging lesson plans across didactic and practical modules appealing to varied learning styles.

  • Classroom & Lab Leadership: Lead lectures, demonstrate clinical procedures (phlebotomy, injections, EKGs, vitals), and enforce campus safety standards.

  • Grading & Advising: Grade student assignments within 72 hours, maintain regular office hours for academic counseling, and document behavioral/academic issues within 24 hours.

  • Student Retention: Monitor student progress, coordinate guest speakers/field trips, and actively support student achievement toward campus mission goals.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education:

    • Associate Degree from an accredited institution recognized by USDE or CHEA.

    • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program recognized by USDE or CHEA (or equivalent recognized training entity).

  • Clinical Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of full-time occupational experience in a healthcare facility, including at least 40 hours (1 year preferred) in an ambulatory healthcare setting.

  • Teaching Experience: Prior classroom or clinical instruction experience is required.

  • Credentials: Active, unencumbered national Medical Assistant certification/registration (e.g., CMA, RMA) as required by institutional or state standards.

  • Technical Skills: Functional proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and video conferencing tools.
