Accountant
The Accountant performs essential financial functions under the supervision of the Controller, ensuring accurate accounting records, compliance with institutional policies, and adherence to regulatory requirements. The accountant also provides information to management by assembling and summarizing data, preparing reports, and making presentations of findings, analyses, and recommendations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure accurate recording of daily cash activity and student receipts, and process data entry of other accounting records
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Student Accounts, and other members of the Accounting Team to maintain up-to-date information in the Accounting Record, including:
- Assisting in the monthly revenue recognition
- Monthly closing process, including variance analysis of Actual vs. Budget vs. Prior Year
- Manage and analyze fixed asset schedules
- Annual personal property declarations and review valuations from the counties
- Reconcile and research bank and general ledger accounts
- Increase productivity by developing automated applications, eliminating duplicative processes, and streamlining information requirements
- Prepare monthly and ad hoc reports
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget, providing insights and analysis
- Support auditor requests by providing necessary documentation and explanations regarding financial transactions and records
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial processes align with institutional goals and support educational programs
- Update skills and knowledge by attending workshops, reading industry-related materials, connecting with others in your field, and joining professional groups..

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and standards
- Proficient user of Excel and accounting software
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications and Google Sheets/Documents
- Ability to analyze financial data and provide insightful recommendations
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or an advanced degree
- Three years of successful experience with an ERP, preferably NetSuite
- Experience in accounting for multi-location and divisional organizations, preferably in a higher education and/or Employee-Ownership setting
